Chai is the word for tea in many parts of the globe and as such has played an important role in many cultures. Most famous of all is India’s chai, a spiced milk tea that has become increasingly popular throughout the world. It generally is made from rich Black tea, milk, a combination of various spices, and a sweetener. The particular spices used vary from region to region  in India, where Masala means ‘mixture of spice’ in Hindi. The most common are cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and pepper.
Masala chai is a superb tea which produces a warm and soothing effect, acts as a natural digestive aid and provides a wonderful sense of nourishment and well-being. The past few years have seen a truly phenomenal growth in the popularity of chai in the Western hemisphere.
