About Us

Hello, Welcome to the Coach and Horses Tea Emporium

It’s all About Variety and Quality

The Coach & Horses Tea Emporium is a Veteran owned business. I was fortunate to have been able to serve as a Marine for over 23 years. I have also been fortunate to have been able to travel extensively and live in places like the Far East, the Middle East, the Mediterranean and even Scandinavia. Whether sitting in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, Turkey or drinking China green tea in the Wan Chai district or the Temple street night market of Hong Kong, my observation is that, although customs vary, we are a world of tea drinkers…Tea has been consumed for centuries. Discovered nearly 5,000 years ago in China, the growing and drinking of tea has spread throughout the world. For some years now, there has been a massive renewed interest in the USA, particularly in the health benefits of tea and for good reason. America is the third largest importer of tea behind Russia and Pakistan. In 2018, Americans consumed over 84 billion servings of tea. Leading the way in introducing new customers to the delights of tea are specialty tea providers like the Coach and Horses Tea Emporium…

For over six years until recently, we have had the good fortune to meet thousands of customers and tea lovers at the Coach and Horses Tea Room in Winchester, Virginia. Although the tea room in now closed, we have fond memories of serving afternoon teas paired with a large selection of unique and and custom blended teas, freshly prepared at the tea room. The aromas and taste of these teas were wonderful and these unique blends are still requested from our customers all over the United States. Everything we do is prepared by hand, right down to the design of our labels and packaging.

The Tea Emporium brings you first quality loose leaf teas from around the world. We only offer small batch blended loose leaf teas, from which we can offer great quality, freshness and taste. We are always on the lookout for new additions to our extensive list of offerings. As such, in the near future we will offer a range of ‘Wellness Teas’ such as Ayurvedic and herbal blends to appeal to those of us who cant take caffeine very well. We also offer a range of colorful teaware to help you enjoy your teas.  On the other side of the scale, we offer a very unique and collectible range of teapots, each made by hand by a family owned staffordshire pottery in England. These unique pieces make beautiful and thoughtful gifts for the tea connoisseur! You will see a range of cups and vessels from which to make and drink your teas, procured from a few high quality suppliers.

The last few years have been very difficult and highly unusual with the Covid Pandemic, supply chain issues and a very difficult economy. We hope to do our part to provide some respite to those difficulties and we look forward to serving you in providing a range of excellent quality products at an affordable price, always freshly prepared and delivered direct to your door…

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY ABOUT US

‘Fantastic’

I went here with a large group and I’m back here today with my family because this tea room is amazing! All the food is homemade and satisfies both my sweet and savory tooth…Bottomless tea and ample food to choose from. Tons of tea varieties – all wonderfully aromatic and tasteful – the choices seemingly endless. Staff is very kind..

‘Typically British, but with even more’…

We visited the C&H tea room last week while in Winchester, VA and even though I am not an avid tea drinker, the sheer range and flavors on offer, converted me. So many quality tea choices and the owner so incredibly knowledgable about teas all over the world. The cakes and savories were simply too much for us to finish, but they gave us bakery boxes to take with us what we couldn’t eat – Nice touch!. Excellent…

‘True High Tea’

A friend took me her for a birthday celebration and it was fabulous! The tea menu offers something for everyone. I had the Ginger Darjeeling Peach which was amazing. The tea pots were bottomless so you could try different teas – the food was bountiful and delicious!

‘Afternoon Tea at its best!’

This was our second visit and would definitely say it is our favorite tea room in the area. We typically frequent hotels on our travels for afternoon tea and this is our top choice. The tea selection and quality is by far the most extensive we’ve seen on a menu. The host and hostess were extremely knowledgeable on all of the many teas and the high tea was simply incredible…

‘Delicious’

My family and I went for afternoon tea this week and we all left raving how it was the best we have ever had! The building is historic; the service was the best I have ever had anywhere, the tea menu the most extensive (many teas I just never knew of) and the food was simply spectacular. Having reviewed over 200 restaurants, this has been my most memorable visit, period!

‘Don’t eat before you go!’

One of the best tea services experienced this side of the Atlantic. Compares with the Plaza and Carlyle in NYC. Excellent service! Amazing tea selection, over 100 varieties…Scones, clotted cream and homemade jam delicious – wonderful High Tea. Mini Cornish Pasties were my favorite…
